How to budget for a kitchen

When you’re planning your kitchen budget, it helps to have a rough guide for where the money’s likely to go. On average, you can expect to spend:

  • 30–40% on cabinetry – this is usually the biggest investment, as your cabinets set the tone and provide all-important storage.
  • 20–30% on appliances – from the fridge to the oven, these are the workhorses of the kitchen, so it’s worth choosing ones you’ll love using every day.
  • 10–20% on your worktop – the surface you’ll prep, serve, and maybe even eat on, so quality really matters here.

The rest of your budget will go towards things like flooring, lighting, plumbing, and those finishing touches that make the space yours. Of course, these percentages aren’t set in stone—if you’ve fallen in love with a statement worktop or high-end appliances, you might shuffle things around. The key is knowing what matters most to you, so you can spend where it counts.
